Popcorn good for teeth
have heard it said popcorn is kinda good for your teeth, that it cleans your teeth as you eat it. Is this true? NOPE. Popcorn is not great for your teeth actually. We love it anyway so here are some tips if you’re going to indulge in eating popcorn. First of all, the kernels and husks of popcorn easily get stuck between teeth and in your gums. Their presence allows bacteria to feed on the carbohydrate they contain, causing cavities. Mechanically, by being wedged in your gums, they allow gum infections to start. Two, the unpopped kernels are dangerous. Biting on them will crack teeth, and break restorations like crowns and fillings. Therefore, after eating popcorn, brush your teeth or gargle and floss or use a toothpick to remove the hulls. And, do not chew on unpopped kernels, in fact chew a little carefully. If you feel something hard resist the temptation to bite down with all your might. -ProDentalFx, LLC
