I only need to brush once a day

I have heard the saying “you only have to brush once a day.” Is this true or false? The answer is false. Brushing once a day definitely is not enough to protect your teeth. The first reason is that your body produces less saliva during the night while sleeping, and saliva cleans your teeth by liquid action. Therefore, the food you eat during the day is less likely to be washed away at night and will stay on your teeth causing decay. Brushing twice a day lowers your oral cancer risk versus brushing once a day (Indian J. Surg. Onc, 2019)! Also, brushing twice a day reduces the number of cavities one may receive, especially in baby teeth (J. Evidence Based Dentistry, 2016). If you have trouble brushing at night because you like to plop into bed then one mental trick is to brush one hour before bed, while you still have energy and forethought. So, in conclusion, don’t be a one-time brusher! – ProDentalFx, LLC
