Aging and Your Teeth

As we get older, we begin to think about our future as elders, and we would be smart to prepare our minds and bodies for it. No one lives forever. But being healthy as possible in old age is much preferable to being unable to get out of a chair, walk, eat comfortably, or even have fun. Regarding your teeth, the main thing I would say is that keeping your natural teeth is preferable to any denture. The discomfort of having a denture in your mouth – a foreign body – is something to strongly avoid. How do we keep our natural teeth? First we must watch what we eat. Fizzy drinks, sugar, highly processed food like cereal and snack bars, and excessive carbs will eat away at your teeth. They will also wreck your body in general. We must also take care of any dental problems with visits to the dentist, namely cavities, misalignment, and gum disease among others. Having misaligned teeth will ruin your bite, and your teeth will grind against each other the wrong way as you chew, resulting in wear and flattening of your teeth. This will collapse your smile, as your teeth hold the space between your nose and chin. Invisalign can help here. Also it is important to clean your gums with brushing, interproximal brushes or floss, as gum infection is the number one cause of tooth loss. So for your teeth and body’s sake, eat more vegetables and home cooked food, drink less soda, get your blood flowing through your arteries with resistance and aerobic training, try to see friends and family, and not least, brush and visit your dentist to keep your pearly whites in peak condition. Whatever your circumstance, we wish you a lifetime of peace and happiness. – ProDentalFx, LLC
